In order to encourage the Bio-dynamic Bio Methodology of Agriculture among the 900 women farmers belonging to 75 SHGs of 15 villages in 3 development blocks, a project was initiated along with 4 other institutions in February 2008.

Kisan Mitra and its associated NGOs celebrated International Women’s Day on March 8, 2008 in the work area. On this occasion, discussions were held on women’s rights, role of women in farming and problems faced them in this regard. About 60-100 women were present on the occasion. Various other competitions were also held on the occasion.

All the 14 associated NGOs of Kisan Mitra celebrated Water Day on 22 March, 2008 in their own work areas. Large number of women, men and children participated in the function. On this occasion, demonstrations, rallies, slogans and film show was organized to stress the importance of water.

A two-day Exposure and Training Programme of the Kisan Mitra Network NGOs was organized by Cow Science Research Centre, Deolapar (Nagpur). The centre specializes in the preparation of cosmetics from Cow-Urine through Vedic methodology. It also provides training on the same.  

District level programmes were organized in 4 districts of Yavatmal and Amravati (Maharastra), Betul and Chhindwara (Madhya Pradesh) on the occasion of May Day (International Labour Day) on 1 May, 2008. The programme was attended by large number of labourers, peoples representatives, administrative officers and representatives of various other Institutions. On this occasion, discussions were held as to how the labourers will be benefited from the 100 days of employment provided under the NREGS and the labourers being paid the full wages for their work.

 

Events

Kisan Mitra organized various events to raise awareness about food security on 16th October (World Food Day). The events were held in 7 different places in 4 districts.)

A one day workshop was organised to discuss Agriculture Policy on 12 September 2007 at Amravati with the help of Action Aid India Mumbai and Focus on Global South India.
